I worked on HoloLens and the broader Mixed Reality division. We were building things that were genuinely technically impressive. The team was extraordinary. The memo used language like "refocusing our efforts" and "concentration of investment." Four months before, leadership had told us the division was "strategically important." What I remember most is the silence afterwards. Teams channels going quiet. Shared drives full of work nobody would ever look at. Documents with comments from people who no longer had access to read them.
